5 – administration |
|
There's no test for this page
because it's mostly just for information. We thought you'd like to
know what administrative tasks fall to you at Elac.
We have tried to keep paperwork
to a minimum because we know that it's not a priority for most teachers.
However, what we do have is quite important in terms of keeping track of our
students and what they are learning. |

Student Reports
A short Progress Report and Certificate of Attendance is given to every
Elac student on departure. You will be asked to complete this by the
penultimate day of the course. |
 |
Weekly Progress
Tests
We ask teachers to construct a short Progress Test for their class which
should be set towards the end of the weekly block of work during the
third lesson. This should cover work in the preceding week only.
It must be marked and the results given back to the students. |
 |
Registers
In each classroom there will be a register which you must fill in
daily. Put a tick for each lesson attended, so there should be
three ticks in the morning box for each student who attends a full
morning. The register should be left in the classroom, so that the
swap teacher can also mark attendance when they come to teach that
group.
If a student is absent for any lesson, mark this with a cross. If
a student is late for a lesson, mark this with the letter L.
The duty receptionist or DoS will come to every class within the first
20 minutes of the first lesson to check absentees so please be ready to
give this information. |
 |
Weekly plans
These need to be made but don't
have to be in huge detail. Here's roughly what they look like with
a few parts completed in the sort of detail that's needed. We do
this so that the DoS / Senior Teacher has a good idea what classes are
doing and can try to ensure they are getting an appropriate mix of
lessons and language. Nobody expects you to follow your plan to
the letter because teaching is a creative activity which has to respond
to the needs as they arise.
The teaching programme must be divided into
weekly teaching blocks. This is because students from different
countries are subject to various holiday dates and therefore cannot come
at the same time. As a result, you will find that the composition
of your class may change on a weekly basis.

Lesson Plans
You don't need to produce these
for every lesson, of course, although we do insist that you plan
carefully. There is one exception – when you are being observed,
you will be expected to write a short lesson plan explaining what you
are doing and why. |
